New Oxford heated grips - new V8 controller

I like their grips a lot, but like a few other riders I know, my older model Oxford controller with 3 buttons stopped working after the warranty period. It still functions but on low setting only.
Today I picked up their premium touring heated grips at Pro Honda with my 10% off BMW club card, regular price was $90 before discount. Total out the door was $ 93.14

What I find interesting is their new setup, it looks a lot simpler with no extra control box under the seat like the old rig. Here is a photo of the wiring system without the grips. Obviously the battery lead goes directly to the controller which then splits to the grips. One less box and a lot fewer wires.
Also the buttons stick up higher, are a whole lot easier to use with winter gloves, and have a definite ' click ' when you do.

There is a new BSM battery saver mode. ( You can turn it off if you don't want it by holding the 2 buttons down for 5 secs ). The BSM senses a low voltage battery of less than 11.5 V lasting longer than 5 secs.
It will also sense no activity or noise for 2 minutes in the elec circuits. Then the power to the grips will be stopped temporarily until voltage rises again, or noise in the circuit is detected. All the lights stay on the controller but the small BSM light beside the minus button flashes while the grips are not getting power.
If there is no activity for another 5 mins the controller shuts off completely.

I have not installed it yet but plan to leave the old grips on to begin with. This saves me some work gluing and trimming them for my bark busters. They were always very hot and I will keep them if they perform as before. Just wanted to post this in case anyone else was looking at buying the new design.
