"Roadside" Camping?

Hi, new to the forums with a question! My buddies and I are headed to Newfoundland from Maine this summer. I've been there before but always in my truck, and always on a rushed schedule. We'll have plenty of time this go around though to do much more hiking and such. Our route is taking us up the western side to Red Bay Labrador.

Anyway, the point of the question, is it OK to pull a bit off to the side of the road and setup some tents and have a small campfire? I know not to touch the stacks of firewood scattered about (we'd either buy it locally or scavenge for deadfall. And of course we won't be on anyones front lawn or anything. We're also on Shadow 1100 cruisers, so a short dirt road is fine but we won't be bashing our way deep into the unknown.

Thanks!
