Ordering Parts from US Suppliers

I prefer to deal with the local Yamaha dealer if at all possible. In the past, I have ordered from on-line suppliers in the US and had stuff delivered to a package service in Houlton ME - 90 minutes from home. Usually only when stuff is not available locally, backordered or foolishly expensive to buy here. Obviously, that course is not open to me right now.

My current issue is availability of the needed parts in Canada - backordered until at least May. Apparently in-stock at Partzilla and other on-line places in the US. Anybody had much luck in ordering for cross-border shipment? In the past, I have been burned by brokerage fees through UPS. USPS, on the other hand, tends to be better but you never know what the shipper will use and what the total cost of getting your order from there to here will be.

Total order cost is maybe $100 but I don't want to pay that much again for shipping, brokerage, duty and taxes.

Just wondering what others have done.
