Supply Chains! Rant?

Even without Covid putting a crack in production lines and speed bumps in the way of shipping... well, I think most of us know how bad Honda Canada can be with stocking parts for those of us with older bikes. The ST1300 has pretty well stayed the same since it's introduction in 2003? until they stopped producing them in 2012?. In 2008, while touring the continent, I was in Vancouver and "needed" (another story) a component that I was told would be 3 months delivery in Canada. Called a bike shop in Portland, OR, they could have it overnight so I went back down into the states and had it installed by early afternoon. The Cdn $ was slightly better than the USD - bonus! I've taken to buying used rims and other components off e-Bay. I need a clutch slave cylinder. $79 USD from US supplier and $121 Cdn. from the dealer. With shipping and exchange, close enough to support the local dealer. Ordered July 26, with an expected delivery Aug. 6... then Aug. 16... now, delivery UNSURE? I've ordered a slave cylinder rebuild kit, $45 Cdn. including delivery and expect it at the end of next week. I had ordered a master cylinder rebuilld kit from them earlier and it took less than 10 days to delivery I don't expect Honda Canada to have every part available for a bike model that probably had mediocre sales in Canada, but damn it, I expect their computer parts supply system to be more accurate!
