    Vangroovy rider in town

I assume they have repaired the hurricane (Larry) damage between St. Stephen's and St. Vincent's? Just checked. Looks like it is partially open as of two days ago... https://vocm.com/2021/09/21/route-90-hurricane-larry/

    Ride for the Fallen

He had obviously not ridden a bicycle recently. You'll fall over if you do that at any speed at all.

    Ride for the Fallen

Whether or not he knew about countersteering, he was doing it! Bicycle or motorcycle, it is the way you must steer if you are doing anything over a few km/hr. It was so automatic for me having driven a bicycle that I never thought about it until someone pointed it out to me when I was learning...

    Ride for the Fallen

Some is certainly muscle memory doing exactly the wrong thing at such a time - at least for some people. I think that failure to negotiate what should be an easy sweeper that possibly took the rider by surprise is often "target fixation". Even experienced riders panic and steer directly for...

    Coronavirus

Reading the comments is like watching a train wreck happen in slow motion. The experts weighing in did their own independent research - Facebook and YouTube as primary sources. Backup confirmation from Fox News and Twitter. In the CBC daily "roundup" of NB covid news, they most often have the...

    Coronavirus

"New Brunswick could reintroduce mandatory masks in public spaces in the coming weeks," says Premier Blaine Higgs. Until this past month, I was giving the NB gov't a B+ on handling the pandemic. D is about the best grade I could give them now. We already have community spread in a number of...

    Coronavirus

And 71 deaths in the past week... At least Kenney and Hinshaw have admitted that their "Open for Summer" plan was flawed and have reinstituted health measures (too late for a bunch of people). Saskatchewan premier Scott Moe made a similar announcement with respect to vaccine mandates and masking...

    Coronavirus

The NB government has FINALLY admitted that their plan didn't work out so well! Opening before the target 75% fully vaccinated was attained, open borders to all Canadians, elimination of mask requirements in indoor public spaces etc. Furthermore, they apparently ignored the numbers as they...

    Coronavirus

I would say "starts to wane". Still quite effective against developing symptomatic disease and very effective at preventing serious illness and death. Still too early to say how effective our double dose will be after 8 months or longer - no data. It does, however, seem likely that we can...

    Coronavirus

I think that vaccine passports will (eventually) be the only way that vaccination rates will get high enough. Provincial governments (especially conservative ones) are dragging their heels until after the federal election. Rates can be kept to a reasonable and sustainable level if most (95%+)...

    Coronavirus

Rant on/ People are idiots! PEI - 5 new cases since Friday. Four under 19 years. (More are expected) NL - 9 new cases - so far avoiding the under 19 year group. NS - 73 new cases! (More expected in Northern zone) Evidence of community spread. NB - 122 new cases since Friday. 45 are 19 and...

What did you do to your bike today?

My FJR gets the clutch pivot and linkage disassembled and greased (waterproof grease) every year or two. Same with the rear brake pedal pivot. I always do the clutch and front brake levers at the same time. (Clutch and brake hydraulic fluid flush is done on the same service interval too)...

    Weather!!

Hope everyone "weathered" the storm OK. My daughter and family are staying at an Air BNB place in Quidi Vidi and didn't even lose power. Kids (boy age 4 years and 8 week old baby girl) slept through it (except for baby feeding)!
