Riding from St. John's to Upstate New York for August 10th weekend to watch a motocross national. I'll be camping most of the way with a flexible itinerary. Just posting in case anybody is familiar with the area and have any recommendations for any scenic rides I should do along the way.
If anybody is interested in coming along I'm not hard to get along with.

I rode to the Adirondacks and back last summer in mid June on the GS and had a blast. You will love it. Fire away with any questions. I spent 4 days riding the Adirondacks out of Lake George. I camped for pretty much the entire trip. Lots to see, ride the Kanc and visit Mt. Washington.

    Hey Denis,
Good to hear from you again!
As TonisToo suggested, there is some great riding to be had in that area.
Where exactly is the motorcross national being held?

    Hi Denis
I have no idea what I am up to and when for the summer. I get down to New England at least three times per season. Generally camping in state parks and riding New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York. Probably won't have specific plans for August until sometime in July. If timing works out, I would be happy to meet up with you and share some nice roads as well as campsites. If I am around, overnight accommodation in Fredericton NB is no problem - easy one day ride from N. Sydney. A nice day from Fred to northern NH. VT or NY border is doable from here but a long ride.

I can certainly give you some suggestions for roads, sights and campgrounds. How long is your planned trip? There and back or do you have a few extra days?

For weekend accommodations at state parks, it is a good idea to reserve a couple weeks in advance. Less problem during the week. State parks are generally pretty good. I have stayed at a half dozen different ones in NH and VT. None in NY.

The National is at Unadilla MX track near New Berlin NY. About a couple hours West of Albany. I see on the map Cooperstown is along the way. I will definitely be hitting that up along the way too.

Very good info. If you have specifics about good campgrounds it would be appreciated. I'm sure they are all fine though.

    Hi Ross,

Yes anything you can point out would be appreciated. I have not been in the area before so if there is anything I should go see I would like to know. Outside of the Motocross National (and possibly Cooperstown) there is nothing I really have planned other than look at a map and look for some good roads to ride. And if your schedule works out it would be great to have another bike along.

    Hey Murph,

I bought a new to me K1600GT last year. Didn't get to ride it much but its like a Barcalounger on wheels.

Don't forget to ride Mount Washington. Definitely a highlight from my ride in that area last year, and you may want to swing by Lake Placid as well.....

I am not so sure that Denis will be interested in Meat Cove, given that he is riding a K1600GT.
There is a great campground in Ingonish, however, as the CapeBreton Highlands are definitely worth the detour.
If I recall properly, there is a KOA campground in Cooperstown that isn’t half bad for an overnight visit.
From my experience, the NY State Park Campgrounds are well run, although a trifle expensive for non-residents.

Last time we spoke you mentioned one while looking at an RT. Too fast for me but a great mile eater.
Being cheap bastards we went for slightly different camping style. With Pizzamans assistance we camped The Shire in New Horton,NB before sleeping at Pizzamans abode. He has a hogon for visitors. The next day we camped at a private campground near Rangely ME before spending time as guests of friends of his in the Keene Valley close to Lake Placid.
On the return trip I stayed with EmmBeeDee and Dresda as well as a couple of random campgrounds found along the road and then spent time with inmate Drainsurgeon. I also used the tentspace thread on ADV. I met old friends and new ones. The random assistance of strangers and friends made my trip a memorable one.

I almost bought the RT from Bob but hesitated a little too long. I'm glad I found the K16 though.
