A terrible blow for the town of St. Bride's on the Cape Shore.
The Gannet's Nest Restaurant, a seasonal business that catered to thousands of tourists each summer, has burned to the ground.
The fire broke out around 4 this morning. Sharon White's sister owns the business. She says she received a call this morning from her brother in St. John's indicating that he heard the story on VOCM about a business on fire in the community.
She says she looked out to see Manning's store still standing and called the local Fire Brigade to learn that her sister's restaurant was on fire.
The restaurant, located just outside the community, is a popular stop for tourists. White says it's a devastating blow.
She says their fish and chips were renowned and people visited from all over the world.
