So we thought today we'd go down and see the ships fleeing the Seaway for the winter, they all have to be out on the 31st. There was a ship parked at the entrance to the Iroquois lock, displaying lights. Waiting for something perhaps? At least it was showing up on the Maritime Traffic site. Later it showed up as having cleared the lock.
But there's also four ships stationary and pointing upstream just west of Prescott, they look like they are in the channel but two of them were riding so incredibly high they looked like they'd run aground. Not showing up on the Maritime Traffic site either. No lights showing. What a mystery that is.
River isn't frozen yet but since the canal is open for skating already in Ottawa, earliest we've had it in years, I'd think its been so bloody cold this December that the Seaway will be all frozen up pretty soon.
