Oil Change Intevals

One of the other threads got me thinking...

I changed the oil on the Tenere 300 kms ago as the interval was up and I didn't know how much longer I'd be riding this season. Now 300 kms later, the Tenere is put to bed until spring - unless we get some absolutely beautiful weather my next turnaround.

I used to be pretty anal over seasonal oil changes, changing the oil just minutes before putting the bike to bed for the winter. I didn't change it this time around though as there was only 300 kms since the last change.

It seems everyone can be lumped into three categories:

1. Change the oil at mileage intervals only. If the bike is put to bed for the winter half way through its oil change interval, it comes back out in the spring and is riden until the next scheduled change.

2. Change the oil just before putting the bike to bed for the winter. The new oil spends the winter in the engine and is utilized in summer until the next scheduled change.

3. Change the oil with a cheap brand which spends the winter in the engine. Upon spring, the cheap oil is drained and a more expensive oil added and used until the next scheduled change.

Thoughts? In which category do you fall?
