Picked up a new bike today, a 1978 Honda XL250s. Haven't owned a dual sport since I was a kid, so really looking forward to getting this up and running.
Currently non-running and in rough shape but all the main bits seem to be in decent shape. Tank has a couple of sizable dents but no sharp edges so hopefully I can get them out. Inside of the tank is surprisingly spotless though. Plastics are faded but all intact with no cracks at all. Seat looks original and cover is in great shape. Headers are rusty but solid, muffler has a tab welded to it but otherwise decent. Wheels are in amazing shape for the age of the bike, that front wheel is 23"
, huge. Few scratches but still look great. Engine is the only mystery part, its currently not running (not stuck) and he mentioned he couldn't change gears at all. The owner never used the bike at all, only got it in a trade.
Goal of the bike will be to work on it with my son as his introduction to motorcycles, really looking forward to it. Have to clean up the garage and make some room, hope to be ready to started when he's finished the school year in June.
Anyone know of a good forum for these bikes?
