Hey guys, new to this forum. New to the whole scene and looking to get a new bike, got a ton of experience growing up on motocross bikes, currently riding a yz250 2 stroke. Anyway really having trouble finding a bike to suit my criteria. Looking for something that can be used on highways for 1 to 2-1/2 hours at a time regularly and reliable enough to take up to Labrador if I wanted to or weekend trips, which brings me to the next point, I'd like something that can have panniers or ammo cans added to be able to take a compact tent, fishing rod and some other gear on weekend trips. would like to stumble on a klr 650, but I'm also interested in what else is out there especially in the larger displacement range and haven't seen anything that sparks my eye yet, in terms of condition and fair price. Help me out if you can guys?

Screams Kawasaki Versys 650 to me. Just speaking from experience. Ask anyone who owes(d) one. 650 is enough, and easier to pick up. versys in fog.jpg

I hated my Versys 650 on dirt roads. My V-strom 1000 was WAY better on the highway and on dirt roads.

Completely agree with the Versys on dirt roads. Fantastic bike otherwise.

Thanks for the input guys, really only considered the Honda 650 (rx650 I think), the ds650 and the Klr, my big goal is to someday go up to Labrador on her so it very well require dirt road. What about her makes it "bad"? The tires? Anyone know anything like this for sale? would like to do weekend trips to random island, trinity, fogo and other small spots like that. Been scowling the classifieds and haven't seen anything that catches my eye.

The XR650, DR650 and KLR650 are all great bikes. The KLR offering more wind protection on the highway but has a weight disadvantage in the dirt.

IMHO they are all way under powered. Which is why i chose the Husqvarna TR650 Terra. 48 RWHP vs 32 RWHP. Close to the KLR in weight though. They are rare around here. I had mine shipped in from Ontario.
