"What's everyone's thoughts on the increasing presence of electronics, gizmos and computers in newer bikes?" etc.

There's another layer to this that I just remembered... ran across a guy at Atlantic Motoplex (now https://www.rallyemotoplex.ca) in Moncton doing a RTR ride from Europe on an 800GS. He had been at the dealership four days trying to get his bike fixed but Atlantic Motoplex's computer couldn't diagnose his problem.

Dealer called finally BMW Germany who advised that the diagnostic equipment they sent to dealers in North America only worked on the bikes they exported to North America.

Don't know if that's still the case, don't know if/how that got resolved, but when I left the Dealer was saying they couldn't charge the rider for all that diagnostic time.

Ha ha, good one, sums it up for me as well. I like technology when I want it but don't really like it being forced on me when I don't. Fighting a losing battle though I think, especially with the IoT getting bigger and bigger. I'll continue to put up a good fight as long as I can though :)

I pretty much hate every dealer in NL except the Toy Box. None of them have a clue what real customer service is.
