Did I need a new rear sprocket?

I am embarrassed to say that I did not notice how worn my rear sprocket was until someone else pointed it out to me. Of course I had to break off one of my chain adjuster bolts in the swingarm while reinstalling the rear tire. I did manage to drill out the left over bolt after breaking off 3 drill bits. I then tapped new threads and replaced both sides with stainless steel nuts and bolts with never seize. When I had the rear tire off, I also noticed that my brakes are gone, both front and rear. A job for next week.

I did learn that others reverse their sprockets to ensure even wear, I never heard of that before. Is that routine practice?
