Chilly Commute

Back on the road again.

With the help of a friend I managed to get a top end oil leak resolved in the Spring. I think Murph saw it in several states of disrepair over the couple of months it was being worked on.

The thing is with these 750s, the valve cover can't come off while the engine is in frame. You have a job to even access all the cover bolts while the engine is in. So...

Above is roughly 200+lbs of metal.

This was fun. Kind of. Once the top end was open, things looked pretty good inside. Replaced the gaskets with new, and set the valves while the cover was off. Some other new bits were installed too, oil screen in the bottom pan, chain and sprockets, wiring harness, fuel petcock, ignition switch, and fluids and filters all around.

Got it running and out the door again in June.

I had the carbs on the bench a few weeks ago to diagnose some problems. A couple of floats were upside down from the PO. I fixed that and cleaned them up a bit and reset them to factory specs. Bike runs better than it ever did.

Riding this time of year makes for a chilly commute though. I need more layers, clearly.

*Oh yeah, who knows what JIS is?
