In my region, this has been one of the easiest winters in recent memory. I wish I had a "beater" bike to take out for some short rides. Temperature highs have been typically hovering around the freezing mark and the roads are mostly dry and completely free of snow and ice - can't say the same about salt! We have had exactly one major snow event with just under 30 cm total accumulation and a few minor events with less than 5 cm each. One freezing rain event with just a few mm. Very little really cold weather so far. Conditions have been similarly benign in the rest of Atlantic Canada and I was wondering if anyone has managed some January rides? If not for the salt, I would have gone out a few times with heated gear... Long range forecast suggests that it will get cooler toward the end of the month and February is supposed to have below average temperatures - polar vortex.
Had the Big Ruckus out for a few days last week. No salt due to heavy rains and I had errands/ commuting to do.
Tried to get out last week but 0º was just cold enough the bike wouldn't start. 3º no problem but then it was wet. Still hoping for a chance but I'm working all week in town.
