I've been thinking about riding safety lately. And one thing that seems to be debated (not on RTR) every year is "loud pipes save lives." While I don't think there is any safety benefit to "loud pipes" what so ever, I think they could be dangerous. For example sitting at a traffic stop, loud pipes may prevent you from hearing the vehicles behind you that may not be stopping! Or emergency sirens even. And then I got to thinking, the same might be the case for those wearing ear buds for music, or crusiers with loud speakers! I'm thinking if we hear the dangers, we have a better chance of getting out of the way as opposed to a car/truck that might not be able to move as easily. Anyway, regardless what you do on bike, just be as defensive as possible.
