I bought two motorcycle tires locally today and found out that the tire levy is $9 per tire! I'm pretty sure it was only $3 last year. That is quite the hike in price! I'm not sure why motorcycle tires get charged the same rate as a car/truck tire. Doesn't really seem fair. My 90/90/21 tire is charged $9 and my truck tire 33/12.5/15 is charged $3
I emailed FortNine just to see what the tire levy fee they charge for the province of NL, and they said $3 per tire. So is it $3 or $9?
And here's another twist. Last summer I dropped off 8 motorcycle tires at the recycling place at Robin Hood Bay, and the guy there said "we don't recycle motorcycle tires" and told me to toss them in the household garbage dumpster! I contacted the City about this, and they said this worker was incorrect. He said he'd refund my levy if I had my receipts....but who keeps receipts for 4 sets of tires.
