Hi Folks- It's time for me to stop abusing my 1982 R/80 GS and put the F650 back on the road ..aside from replacing the original starter, ( remember, anyone? Murph? saved by the kickstart pedal that time ) I've not had to do much to this bike other than gas and oil :)
So I've re-assembled the F-bike and have no parts left over . This is what I know for sure ...
-bike is dual carbs on a single cylinder
-carbs were not disassembled
- battery has been on Maintenance/trickle charge for the duration... showing good voltage and will turn the engine over for a good minute or so (ouch)
- fuel is fresh, carbs are getting fuel
-plugs are not new but bike was running fine when put it on the lift-no issues other than the "thunk" from the rear shock mount. This was the reason for exploratory dis-assembly. Plugs look good and are not fouled
- fuses checked and all good
-have tried pulling the plug and looking for spark while cranking- i see no spark:( ( not recommended I have read)
-coils perhaps ?
- could be the plug caps? these have never been apart so I don't suspect them really

that would be as far as I got with trouble shooting- I don't really want to haul the whole works apart again ..you have to remove all kinds of plastics and the tank and air box and a bunch of other stuff to get at the carbs and I'm reasonably sure it was all re assembled correctly...

so it seems to me that the plugs are not sparking..or perhaps "air lock " ? I'll try new plugs and hope for the best..

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..other than than that I'll hafta wait til Spring and put her in for the 90,000 km recommended maintenance and hope they can resuscitate.
