Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Well... first, Newfoundland is GORGEOUS. I think that the west coast is my favorite by a narrow margin. Wow. Just... amazing. Second... whoever said that the 105 up through Baddeck is bad road has never ridden Rt 7 up from the east shore of Nova Scotia. Seriously, 105 wasn't that bad. Vermont...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Swinging east around Bras d'Or to the museum adds 75 miles and over an hour and a half to the run up from Peggy's Cove. I think we'll leave the museum for another day. That gives us 6.5 hours to N. Sydney, which leaves time to see sights along the way. Oddly enough, we had already planned on...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Didn't realize that was a link; I'll check it out this morning. We were planning on going via the Eastern Shore already; wife hates the Trans Can. AND with 30 km of construction down to one lane in each direction... that's a no-brainer. I can go down to Marxachusetts if I want to see...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

We're probably going to go home through NB - get off the ferry from Argentia on a Tuesday morning, punch through to Calais and stay the night and then one last day home. Two 400 mile days. And what documentation is required in advance? I already have the stupid vaccine card.

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

I'm kind of splitting my attention between your reply and a balky workstation that I'm remoted in to, currently, but we start the day at King Neptune's Campground in Indian Harbour near Peggy's Cove. The only thing really planned for the day is to get to the ferry dock by 2115 hours, after...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Bob, can you amplify a bit on this? It looks like Kelly's Mtn is 120 km from the Causeway - the road is rough all the way? And when you say rough, are we talking scarified pavement (stripped) or just it hasn't been paved several years?

What did you do to your bike today?

Pulled the front wheel and the forks off my Gold Wing. New Avon Cobra Trike tire for the front wheel, plus fork seals, plus a front brake job and a replacement for a leaky brake line to do before I'm ready for my trek from Vermont up to visit your beautiful island!

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

I'm thinking of that. Going to be doing a test packing this weekend, so it's a possibility. Quite. On our way back in 2018 we got it unfolded and staked down about 30 seconds before the skies opened up in Skowhegan, ME. We were quite dry. And we've added a 6x9 den that attaches to the front...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Dresda, Murph - thanks for the feedback on temperatures. My old Pro-Tech jacket has arm vents, and I'm perfectly comfortable up to the high 70's (25°C or so). That's where I start wishing for my mesh jacket. I have a TourMaster mesh jacket with both waterproof and wind-proof insulated liners...

    Even with an insulated liner?

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

I'm going to be camping at Kinsman Prince Edward campground. I've been reading Gillis & Aiken's Motorcycle Journeys Through Atlantic Canada, and it mentions that temps are typically in the 60s (Um... maybe around 20C, give or take?) even during July - is that really accurate? I'm wondering if I...

Traveling to the Rock for a visit

Good afternoon. I found this forum kind of by accident... Anyway, I'm a rider from Vermont, and my wife and I will be traveling to Newfoundland for the last week of July. We're coming up to participate in the Ride the Rock rally that the Newfoundland Widows Sons chapters (Masonic Riding...
